The latex mentioned in several recipes for this species is a milky exudate.

Euphorbia genus has some species which may contain co-carcinogenic diterpene-esters (phorbol esters) in the latex e.g. tigliane, ingenane & daphnane type. Milky exudate (latex) can cause local skin reactions including blistering, burns, itching etc.
